Not many 21-year-old college students can say that they have good friends who have lived through both World Wars, saw the rise of the digital age, or have been married for 50+ years. I can, and I am so incredibly blessed that I was afforded the opportunity to not only work as a paid intern for one of the most innovative senior living providers in Colorado, but to also live with the amazing residents at Someren Glen.

My senior living career started when I took a dining internship with a senior living company last summer and realized firsthand how rewarding it is to work with the older population. I have since been conducting industry-wide research with the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures, focusing on affordable senior housing and how to recruit my fellow millennials into the long-term care workforce. I plan on completing my hospitality and gerontology degree at Cornell University this December and then joining the workforce full time, continuing to learn more about how to improve the lives of older adults!

This summer, I am working on two different projects that have been invaluable learning opportunities. I spend half my time at the CLS Home Office as the project manager for the Dayspring Villa management transition, and I spend the other half of my time at Someren Glen, working with the team members and residents to continue to make it the best place it can possibly be.

Not many college students live in retirement communities, and yet I can’t articulate how much of a blessing it has been to be here so far. I want to extend the warmest thanks to everyone for being so welcoming and helpful to me as I learn! As Russ DenBraber would say, I hope to see you all “around the ranch!”
