As a Certified Nursing Assistant for Christian Living Communities for five years, Tabitha (not her real name) has lovingly supported residents, assisting them with bathing, brushing their teeth or getting dressed.
Her work is not a job but a calling.
Now she is struggling to buy groceries and pay rent. Her three children, who received breakfast and lunch at school, are home. Her husband’s work as a taxi driver is nearly non-existent. Much of the family’s income has been slashed because of the COVID-19 crisis.
Last week she was able to put food on the table thanks to those who have donated to the Critical Needs Fund.
The Critical Needs Fund provides emergency grants of up to $1,000 that can be used to help with groceries, extra childcare, rent, transportation and medical expenses.
In the two weeks since the Fund was expanded to help with emergencies due to COVID-19, more than 20 team members have sought help. Most are struggling because family members are out of work or they have lost their second job.
They are stressed because they cannot pay their rent, afford the extra childcare or make repairs to their car.
Funds have helped team members like Doris (not her real name) a CNA who was laid off from her second job and could not make her car payment or pay her auto insurance. Supporters came to the rescue. “I was stressed out. This really helps a lot,” she shared.
In this time when so many are struggling, the Critical Needs Fund is having an amazing impact thanks to the generosity of those who make this assistance possible.
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25.
