In 2007, Christian Living Communities received a remarkable act of generosity from Gilbert (Gil) and Jeanette Deters. Through their estate plans, they chose to invest in the future by establishing an endowment designed to benefit two very special places: The Suites at Someren Glen (The Johnson Center) and The Suites at Clermont Park (University Hills).

Nearly two decades later, their kindness continues to shape daily life in ways both visible and deeply felt.

An endowment is a gift with lasting purpose. Carefully stewarded and invested, it provides ongoing support year after year. Rather than funding a single moment, it creates a steady source of care — quietly strengthening communities for generations.

For years, the Deters' endowment has continued to create new opportunities for connection, wellness, and joy.

Recently, the gift made it possible to expand a walking path at Someren Glen, inviting residents and team members to spend more time outdoors. What might seem like a simple improvement carries meaningful impact: fresh air, movement, conversation, reflection, and the simple pleasure of experiencing Colorado’s natural beauty.

At Clermont Park, the same enduring generosity enriched community life in equally meaningful ways. Endowment support helped provide:

  • Engaging fitness classes promoting strength, balance, and confidence
  • Music experiences bringing comfort, creativity, and shared enjoyment
  • Certified Eden Associate Training supporting a philosophy of person-centered, life-affirming care

These are not simply programs. They are experiences that nurture well-being, spark joy, and foster belonging.

This is the quiet beauty of a legacy gift.

Jeanette & Gil Deters FormalGil and Jeanette Deters lived a somewhat frugal, unassuming life. Gil worked for Keesen & Son’s Landscaping, and Jeanette was a long-time volunteer at Clermont Park. Their careful plans created an amazing legacy. They never saw first hand thier impact, however their compassion lives in every resident who feels stronger, every shared song, every step taken along a sunlit path. Their gift continues to express care, dignity, and love — long beyond their lifetimes.

Legacy gifts, also known as bequests, remind us that generosity has a ripple effect that time cannot diminish. They allow individuals and families to say, “This community/organization matters to us,” and ensure that future generations benefit from that same care and opportunity.

Love, when shared forward, has no ending.

Estate Planning: Separating Fact from Fiction

Myth: Only wealthy people need a will.

Fact: A will protects the people you love—no matter your stage of life.

An up-to-date will brings clarity and peace of mind for the people you love. If your will is outdated, it may not reflect your wishes today. Updating it is an act of care.

Planning for the future is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give your family. Our complimentary Estate Planning Guide helps you organize your wishes and prepare for conversations with your attorney or advisor.
